Cowbridge and Vale Medical Practice

Reasons for appointments

If you have an eye problem (acute or chronic) there are 3 opticians in Cowbridge and 2 in Llantwit Major that will see and treat you under the WECS scheme as an NHS patient, for no fee. Many minor conditions can be dealt with quickly by popping in to see a pharmacist in any chemist, there are 2 in Cowbridge and 2 in Llantwit Major. As a result of inappropriate GP appointments that would have been best dealt with by other professionals, or by a telephone call, our receptionists will now ask patients the reason for the booking when calling in, and your co-operation with this would be greatly appreciated. You don't need to go into great detail, but an outline of the reason for the appointment may highlight that an alternative to visiting the GP may be more beneficial to you. Thank you for your co-operation.

Appointments to Pre Book

Generally, these can be pre-booked up to 4 weeks in advance by telephoning or visiting the surgery (or online if you have an account with us).  Appointments are booked in 10 or 15 minute slots depending on the clinician, but if you need more time in your consultation, we will endeavour to show you this courtesy.

Open Surgery Appointments

The surgery has book on the day appointments for each doctor working that day.  Patients need to telephone at 8am on that morning to be given a time to come to the surgery for their appointment.

Urgent Appointments

Evening appointments -  As there are only 4 appointments available, they are not to be used for routine problems that could wait until the next day.

To arrange a Home Visit

The doctor on call is able to make house visits if necessary, when a patient is unable to come in to the surgery due to ill health. House visits are not undertaken if a patient cannot attend due to transport difficulties. Call 01446 772237 between 8.00 am - 10.30 am. Telephoning before 10.30 am will help the Doctor plan their visits.
